Albany runners head to state competition with community cheering them on

Albany seventh grader Kristine Kalthoff and ninth grader Eli Weiss got a warm sendoff on a chilly Friday, Nov. 6 morning as they headed to the state cross country meet, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 at St. Olaf College in Northfield.
It is the first state visit for both runners. Kalthoff qualified for state after coming in fourth out of 138 runners in the girls race. Weiss qualified after coming in 13th overall out of 138 runners in the boys race.
School was not in session on Friday, but the Albany Swim Team took a break from their practice in the pool to head outside to help send Kalthoff and Weiss on their way. Also joining the swimmers were teachers, administrators, family and friends who came together to create a bridge of hands for the two to run under before loading up for the competition.
